Seals will perform the banana pose if they feel safe and content and this pose helps them regulate their body temperature.

Bergmann's rule states warm environments are ideal for small mammals. We would expect the equator to act as a barrier for large marine mammals.
The high number of equatorial crossings for true seals was unusual, but likely made sense if they were small. I decided to test this.
