The dark stain at the back is indeed decay fluids, but the head is still rounded (just not as much). It had a mouth at the end with teeth inside, annulations, and two eyes facing upwards to look for predators. Also, this is H. fortis, which had a more bulbous head than H. sparsa

Here's an older piece, one of the first real maw shots I've done. I think its the only one done of Photoshop. I primarily use Clip Studio Paint nowadays.
I did like how the shadowing turned out *cheating and using cast shadow on the fluids* ☺ this was my profile pic for a while
