For me early Victorian is best epitomised by scenes of narrow lanes between unsteady old buildings that seem to lean claustrophobically towards one another such as shown in this glimpse down Cloth Fair towards Smithfield, drawn by J Findlay (1852)

Been reading lots of Victorian ghost stories lately 👻 Here’s a comic inspired by an 1861 short story called “Horror: A True Tale” (which i guess is less of a Victorian ghost story and more of a Victorian home invasion story)
