Finished up my Rumsha Merchant. This species inhabits the underground cities on Talifar, where all my fantasy adventure novels take place. Most Rumsha stay underground and happily dig all day, or protect the young. But the merchants go out and trade with the surface dwellers.

These aren’t even close to being finished sketches but I really dig how they are turning out. I’ve seen a few pieces that have these two cards posed together and I rolled with it

The Trapinch/Vibrava/Flygon line is really neat - they're based on a family of insects called antlions! Many species of antlions, when they are larvae, dig funnel-shaped pits in sand that trap their prey. As adults they resemble dragonflies.

Sandslash is based on the pangolin! These insectivorous mammals are covered head to toe in scales made of keratin, the same material as your hair and nails. Many pangolins live in trees, but ground pangolins dig their burrows in the dirt, hence Sandslash's ground typing.

If you want to dig into Riku's character act deeply, then it's impossible to avoid his queer coding.
