I think something I need to try and do more as an artist, is try less to nail details when using reference. And focus more on simplifying said details to match my style.

From the neck up looks good. But everything else suffers due to me trying to match the reference.

Straw-shroom! Night Howler’s (found) brother and what Velvet called “Nerd Kid”.

Yeah their hat is based from a famous poison mushroom (the red hat one, ya know) as I looked through references for a strawberry-like mushroom. Don’t ask me for anything more than this.
