Made by acclaimed #17thcentury landscape painter #JacobvanRuisdael, this dramatic vista is dominated by turbulent, fast-moving water flowing through a rocky gorge.
This 14th century tale is based around the arrival of the titular supernatural green knight to the court of King Arthur and the journey and tasks that follow. Green was v. much the colour of ghosts and other supernatural beings of the time (and still is today for the most part)
The spear Achilles is shown with looks way more like a partisan polearm than the kind of shape you’d typically see for a greek dory, especially with those protrusions on the sides used for parrying. Partisans came around in 16th century europe & became a more ceremonial spear!
