The Soviet levels of CoD: World at War- and to a lesser extent the Vietnam levels in the first Black Ops- had such a horrid, despondent feeling to them, they felt like the end of the world was happening. I really wish Treyarch had gone further with that tone in future entries.

Patlabor The Movie (‘89). The 2nd film gets a lot of love, but the first shouldn’t be ignored. Mamoru Oshii’s fun action/thriller has an engaging central mystery. It offers glimpses of the existential themes the director would later explore while keeping the tone light.
