Isambard Kingdom Brunel was born #OTD in 1806. Brunel designed the original Hungerford Suspension Bridge that opened in 1845. The chains from this bridge went on to be re-used in Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge! © @VanishedLondon @YoEgovuk

This very early photo of London was taken by William Fox Talbot way back in 1845! It's the short-lived Hungerford suspension bridge (designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel), which spanned the Thames until 1860 when it was demolished to make way for the Charing Cross railway bridge.
