April Fools' is the theme for today's #SundayFishSketch, so here is the foolish Tiktaalik who thought he was too special to live in the water like other fish. This decision had wide-ranging consequences.
Off-theme Iowa darters for today's #SundayFishSketch, featuring both the female and male breeding colorations!
Well everyone here we go - #WhaleDayFriday AND #SundayFishSketch, the crossover episode (of many, I hope!) - these are the large fish predators of the California Current Ecosystem that you may get to encounter while whale watching here!
Sort of on-theme #SundayFishSketch, bluntnose minnows can live up to five years, but they're also one of the most popular bait fish, so they'd have to dodge a lot of predators' mouths to reach those advanced ages!
For this week's #InternationalWorkersDay themed #SundayFishSketch, here's a fish familiar with some construction! The hornyhead chub gets its name from the thorny protrusions on its head that help them move rocks when building their nests!
For the schooling theme #SundayFishSketch, E drew a young barracuda and H drew some shrimp.
For my first #sundayfishsketch, say hi to Petrus rupestris, (or the red steenbras,) a relatively large but rare fish belonging to the family of sea breams and porgies. This species is endemic to South Africa but is now unfortunately endangered due to overfishing.
For our reproductive-strategy-themed #SundayFishSketch, have a chum #salmon in mating colors! The bright red and hooked mouth help this male attract mates. #illustration #fish #nature #wildlife #freshwaterfish #Oncorhynchusketa #Pacificsalmon
Happy Halloween all! Couldn't illustrate new fish today. But here are a few chimaera for today's #Sundayfishsketch, also known as ghost fish, spook fish mostly due to their appearance and their life in deep waters.

Slithering in with a spotted snake eel for #SundayFishSketch, fish that look like other things theme. Been off for a bit, nice to be sketching a fish again! #fishart #sciart #Procreate #procreateart
A banjo catfish for #SundayFishSketch, fish named for famous folks theme. Scruggs catfish, a new species (2020) from the Amazon basin, w fewer fin rays than other Aspredinids. Named for bluegrass banjo player, Earl Scruggs & his famous 3 finger pickin’ style. #fishart #sciart
For today's #SundayFishSketch, I drew a Devils Hole Pupfish (still a work in progress...). The only relation to the theme is that they, like bunnies, are cute 🐰On another note, I finally have prints up for sale on my website. Link is in the thread.
I had quite a difficult time coming up with a fish for this week's #SundayFishSketch, but I ended up drawing a blind goby, Othonops eos, first discovered and described by Rosa Smith Eigenmann.
For this week #SundayFishSketch, the round goby seemed appropriate. This small benthic fish have been introduced in the Great Lakes in 1993 probably by ballast water. Territorial and aggressive, it remodeled a lot of freshwater benthic communities.
For this week's #SundayFishSketch, I digitally painted a red serpae tetra (Hyphessobrycon eques). I've always enjoyed having these in aquaria. #Ichthyology #sciart #fishsci #adobefresco @adobefresco
For today’s #mermay themed #SundayFishSketch, I did a reverse mermaid Bluefin tuna!
I’m calling it “Bluefin Booty” 😂😂
For the @AlaskaSeaLife-themed #SundayFishSketch, the grunt sculpin. Grunt sculpins camouflage themselves by sitting in empty barnacle shells and facing outward - in this position, the shape of its head makes it look like a barnacle!
Presenting the splendid toadfish for mid week #SundayFishSketch, look at the lovely yellow on the fins!! Sadly, IUCN listed as endangered due to pollution/overfishing
Also: all toadfishes are splendid
#EarthDay2020
Today, for #SundayFishSketch, I illustrated another set of fish jaws to add to my growing collection! Pterycombus petersii, the prickly fanfish! #Ichthyology #FishSci #SciArt #Anatomy #ComparativeAnatomy
For this midweek #SundayFishSketch, here's some fish from the Waraniak family Zoom "Which quarantine fish are you?" drawing session last Sunday!
