So what are these things on Vilgax's face? I assume they are water tanks on Vilgax's gills allowing him to breath, but Ultimate Alien retcons that kind of.

I got a new fan theory. Ben made the Biomnitrix for taking down Vilgax. Since Vil's new body was developed for combat against Ben's transformations, Ben would need something new to get the edge. So if his normal alien forms weren't doing the job alone why not put them together?
