#OTD 23 July, 1812, Davout defeated the VII Corps of Raevsky at the Battle of Saltanovka/Mogilev, causing Bagration's 2nd Army to flee for Smolensk.
Barclay's 1st Army, unaware of this, arrived at Vitebsk. Their union, again, was hampered for their own good.

#Onthisday June 24, 1812, the main body of Emperor Napoleon’s Grand Armee crossed the Prussian-Russian border at the Niemen River. The I~III Corps under Davout, Ney, and Oudinot and cavalry under Murat had crossed the day before.
