I always hear of the modern Puyo Puyo from many hear but what are anyone's thought of the series' original style?

To start things off, the inspiration for Clover, when redesigning him at least, was from a bunch of those "Kool and edgy video game mascots" from the '90s. As for his design, it was partially inspired by NiGHTS. This is also the reason why he's not a human being.
