wooo hello #FilipinoCreators 🇵🇭! i'm adroitcell (u can just call me "ad") and i make pixel art!
good morning! another neat detail you might have missed: this is a carabao/water buffalo skull that the rich adorn their homes with. the more skulls they have on their houses, the wealthier they are! (back when they were still headhunting, they use human skulls too)
FORGOT TO POINT OUT ONE DETAIL: the ti plant or the "dongla" plants. the plant these at the terraces to drive away evil spirits and mark boundaries. these plants are also used in rituals
a quick architectural detail that stuck with me in school: the part that is pointed at is called the "halipan" it's a rat guard that is used to deter pests into getting into the house!
the bulul or bul-ul is a carved wooden figure that the ifugaos believe to guard their rice crops. they are also believed to bring abundance to their harvests!
rice is a big part of the ifugao culture, and they have utilized wet rice terraces for hundreds of years now! one of most known terraces is called banaue rice terraces and is a UNESCO world heritage site.
