An old sketch I dug up that I'm modifying to be pastel. I'm using only seven colors btw. ;)

Literally it's that easy to not whitewash/make a character look like a grayish c*rpse. Left is the person's OG piece and the right is an edit I made by just sliding hue/sat values.
