My favourite part of writing an Icon is the stage called Roskrish, where we pool layers of raw pigment in egg yolk to refine and line later. The colour just shimmers and binds and finds its own harmony.

The tidal race at Hessle was stunning - milky and glowing, with white horses of spume, and barrels of foam. It’s exhilarating to be out there in such a day painting trying to catch a little of wild rawness of such a day.
