Kal collapsed, crashing into a heap of icy shards. He couldn't get up through the pain and petrifying cold.
Eri and him were both overcome by crushing self blame. Weeping bitterly, Eri scraped himself off the ground to protect Kal.
Frake begged Eri to run away...

Without thinking, fueled by the soul of a son, Eri threw himself in the way of the lance and took the hit for the father he barely knew.

Kal was shocked, but barely listened to Eri's tirade. He was still in ruthless battle mode, and saw an opening. While Frake was distracted, he formed a bitter lance of fire and launched it, hoping to end this in one hit. Eri sensed the biting shift in Kal's magic...

Knowing that this magic-user had mortally wounded him before, Kal threw up a soul-tinted flare. Perhaps another infiltrator would be able to back him up just in case. Then, he went all out and continued to battle Frake.

Meanwhile, Kal emerged into the courtyard and found himself face to face with Frake. At first he thought them just another royal guard, but when they engaged, Kal's keen magic sense recognised their magic: the same magic that gave him his scars.

Strayka and Risk emerged onto the parapet walk simultaneously. Two other infiltrators caught Strayka's eye and she engaged them, but when she unloaded her ghost bolt, she hit something she didn't see. Risk was hit and their much weaker stealth caster was killed instantly.

Kal continued and ran into Strayka. She was trying to get to the King's side and he did his best to stop her. They had a short, savage battle before Strayka ran him through with her trident and stunned him just long enough to make a break for the stairs to the parapet walk.

Kal ploughed through the guards in his path like a freight train and made his way into the main halls, followed closely by Risk. Risk was one of the stealth assassins, cloaked by an illusion caster, aiming for regicide as the others caused mayhem.
