Edge to edge again, forming a net to see through. Reminds me of Ian McKeever who was a tutor. Ian was a bin man and a pro soccer player turned painter. He was constantly enigmatic and trying to confuse. I think artists should just be normal

Edge to edge, creating grids and other non-contained crosses is becoming an obsession. It’s the old abstract expressionist obsession with edges of picture planes.

Looseness with control is a difficult line to walk. Slightly too far and things get really really messy really quickly. Working in layers allows me to show-hide and undo. Something that is quite hard to do in paint.

The colours for this were seen at night. I sometimes take a photo and grab a colour palette through the Pantone app. This one was from memory though.

At the age of 12 I started in calligraphy, which led me to typography and design later on. Some ideograms in logogrammatric languages attempt to visualize abstract concepts, such as 上 up and 下 down.

As with any series, the end of the last, can start the next. 36 continued from 35 and the coral colour was the starting point for 37. They are made linearly but I might be working on 5 or 6 at the same time.

I intend these to be unframed. The digital device is the frame. If they’re reproduce on paper then a simple white frame is best. I sometimes draw a frame like on this one to create depth.

The halftone screen was a mistake, looking for a filter and this happened. As with painting sometimes I leave the mistakes. I like the machine-made contrast with hand-drawn. This became one of my favourites
