My @NewStatesman Children's books coming soon, but this is my Picture Book of the Year. PJ Lynch's The Snow Queen and 'Twas the Night Before Chriustmas are gorgeous too. But Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening is heart-stopping.

I don’t often like or admire what is pumped into bookshops as a best-seller, but this is tremendous - an 18th century war hero trying to solve the murder of his best friend, involved in the abolition of the slave trade.
