Inuit communities were mostly along the tree lines, it wasn't until 1950's Cold War that Inuit were FORCED to move into the Arctic and Baffin Island. This was to show Americans and Russians that Canadians lived there, so Canada can claim the region.

Until the 1950's Inuit lived on or close to the tree line, during the Cold War, Americans and Canadians worked together to create a defense system called DEW LINE. Inuit were relocated to lands where these stations would be.

We never lived in the high Arctic until 1950's, cold war. The Canadian Government RELOCATED many families where you see arctic communities.
Before that, we generally lived along the northern tree lines as shown on the map.
