Earlier armies of few knights conquered whole countries (Normans in Italy,Franks in Greece). Changes were introduced to SE Europe by the Catalan Company. First they destroyed an army of knights in Sicily in 1282 & between 1282-1311 any Turkish or Byzantine army they found.
