She married painter and fellow Royal Academy student ᴇʀɴᴇꜱᴛ ɴᴏʀᴍᴀɴᴅ and they moved togheter in Holland Park (London), residence of many other artists of the day. Leighton, Millais, Prinsep and Watts frequently visited the couple

Her own interest in art was encouraged by an artist uncle who had been a pupil of the caricaturist George Cruikshank.
After 5 failed attempts, she got a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Arts, her teachers being Tadema, Dicksee & William Frith
Two books illustrated by him, priced at a shilling each, were published every Christmas for eight years. He also illustrated novels, accounts of foreign travel, made humorous drawings depicting hunting and fashionable life and exhibited his paintings in the Royal Academy.
