I didn’t do it in the main example, but I’ve found using one color to render is really helpful. Essentially it lets you focus on where the shadow/highlight goes and the shape rather than just the color. And you just use alpha lock again to change it.

Then I start coloring. The basic process I do is simple, I start with a single flat color on everything before going into specifics. That allows me to use alpha lock to not have to keep retracing the outline. Once that’s done I’ll start rendering.
