I do large brush stroke doodles when I'm ramping up to do work or coming down from a full work day. This time it was Brook, Franky, Sanji and Zoro. #Onepiece
Quick directional lighting practice as a brief break. I find using a black background with lineart makes it easy to blend shadows in. I may come back to this design at some point, reminds me of big 90s hair.
It would be nice to take all those thumbnail drawings I've done in the last year and do a compilation of tiles. It taught me a lot about storyboard key lighting!
The next step for me is learning how to continue rendering out ideas without it and losing the 'magic' of the sketch.
It's worth making messy things to make them make sense to you in a thumbnail. I think my best thumbnail sketches come from improvising.
