Jean Mermoz and his crew arriving in Brazil after a South Atlantic flight. This flight was the first air service from Paris to Buenos Aires in the Couzinet 70 'Arc-en-Ciel' in 1933. Its crossing of the Atlantic Ocean from Saint-Louis-du-Sénégal to Natal will take 14 h 27 minutes.

The Breguet Br. 960 was a mixed propulsion Propeller/Turbojet aircraft designed in 1947 for the French Navy, it made its first flight in 1951. The aircraft, finally too heavy, was stripped of its turbojet engine and was produced after an heavy redesign under the name "Alizé".

France also wanted to send astronauts into orbit during the 1960s like the USA and the USSR, with the difference that the very first design was already that of a reusable shuttle with variable geometry for re-entry, launched from a supersonic carrier aircraft, the 'TAS' project.

In 1971, the mirage G4 was transformed into Mirage G8 02, powered by two SNECMA M53. In 1973, the 02, piloted by Jean-Marie Saget set a new speed record for an aircraft designed in Europe by reaching Mach 2.34 This record has not been beaten to this day.
