To mark Armistice Day, here's a drawing by Bruce Bairnsfather from Vernon's Remembrance Bulletin, 12 Nov 1938. #WW1
"A Castle in the Air." BB had seen the shelling of the Chateau de la Hutte near St Yvon at close range in 1914-15....
"A Really Welcome Economy." In 1915 there was a major crisis due to a shortage of artillery shells at the front lines.
...& 4 days out. "In and Out (II).The return to billets for 4 days rest was a very welcome event for BB & the Warwicks.
"In and Out (1)." In the winter of 1914-15 BB and the 1st Bn Royal Warwickshire Regt spent four days in the trenches...
"The Conscientious Exhilerator." Whistling & singing may not always have helped morale, depending on vocal ability!
"When the 'ell is it goin' to be strawberry?" One of BB's most famous and instantly recognised cartoons, from 1915.
@wallerl23 I think this is the cartoon, Lawrence - "The New Sumbarine Danger"? Glad you're enjoying them.
