The prologue of the film aims to show who Indy is. The production needed someone to inspire the idea of the adventurous archaeologist, treasure hunter, without fear, brave... and charming smile. That responsibility would fall on Richard Young, leader of his band of ruffians.

When Boam outlined the character of Indy's father in his first screenplay of September 1987, Lucas believed that the role had to be offered to Gregory Peck, while Spielberg opted for Sean Connery from the beginning. Although not enthusiastic, Connery accepted to read it.

The bridge was undoubtedly safe, everything was checked, but we all were really impressed of it. But when Harrison showed up and began to run as much as he could on it without any safety harness... time stopped for us!

They filmed the close-ups of our heroes facing the flood on the 1:1 scale wall at Elstree Studios parking lot. They also made Ford to climb a blue cliff, which they inserted into the film later. This required to edit the negative to match his movements with the real set.
