@JListPeter The announcer really had to stress that these young ladies were just delusional and not actually shooting each other to bloody bits. It's just hijinks, folks.

@JListPeter An interesting thing was the small boarding house where the six tenants and the manager had small (around 8 tatami mat rooms) and all shared toilets and clothes washing on the floors. Cooking was done on tiny countertop burners.

Maison Ikkoku by Rumiko Takahashi was released by Viz in 15 mirrored & translated manga volumes in 1993 and was a terrific series.
