While the design is inspired by the Brian Engh reconstruction, I tried my best to ensure that it isn't a complete clone. Due to this, I made the keratin sheathe of the crest rounder and smoother, and made the body black with white countershading and striping.

I watched an episode of that Land Before Time series that used to air on Cartoon Network, and my eyes were assaulted by these homunculi.

My brain went haywire when I found out that these two movies are based on the same book series.

Not only did the dinosaur DNA improve the ant's ability to breathe, but it also enhance their ability to support their own weight at a larger size. They possess a mesoskeleton, a combination of an insect exoskeleton and a vertebrate endoskeleton.

The idea behind my interpretation is that Dr. Roth had to somehow override the size limitations that ants experience due to their extremely simple respiratory systems. To do so, he added some dinosaur DNA, allowing for more efficient oxygen intake to power an even larger body.
