Karl von Drais published a French translation of his advertising leaflet for his "Draisine" or "Laufmaschine" (German for running machine) which referred to it as a velocipede, later called a "Dandy Horse" or "Hobby Horse".
The first pedal-equipped bicycles appeared in the 1860s.
Karl von Drais invented the 'dandy horse' in 1817, the precursor to our modern #bicycle.
