It's your 24 hour reminder to the Busy Life Inclusion Half Hour! Whose joining me tomorrow, 630pm, to tweet, retweet, comment, and like everything positive about disABILITY? #thinkINC @SamWlandscapes @RustyandBoots @ashleyrclark1 @embRUDEry @vipmumsndads @BocciaEngland
The "Inclusive Question of the Week" is, "are there any good news stories about disABILITY?" Of course! Just have a search of online news sites. There's amazing SEND teachers, fundraising for charities, & new innovations making life easier, & more! #thinkINC
My 2nd good news story is a running one. A vision-impaired runner was helped by a stranger to finish a marathon. Haseeb Ahmad was 18 miles in when his guide runner had to stop. The next runner, Stuart Whitehouse, took over & they crossed the finish line together! #thinkINC
So, I hope I've helped to dispel a few myths about disABILITY. We are all human and all different, but we all live similar lives, regardless of any impairment we may have. #thinkINC #disABILITY #SEND
19) Myth. Everyone who uses a wheelchair is chronically ill. FALSE. The association between wheelchair use & illness may have evolved from their use in hospitals. However, wheelchairs are mobility aids that are used for lots of different reasons. #thinkINC #disABILTY #SEND
6) Myth: All people who use a wheelchair cannot walk. FALSE.
There are many reasons someone may only sometimes use a wheelchair. They could have Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and on their ‘bad’ days they might choose to use their chair. #thinkINC #disABIITY #SEND
4) 2% of the working age population becomes disabled each year. In addition, 78% of disabled people acquire their impairment aged 16 or older (Source: Employers' Forum on Disability). Another thought provoking fact. #thinkINC #disability #SEND
Has anyone ever used @YouTube to learn about the lived experience of having an impairment? It's a great resource and has so many videos posted by people with autism, ADHD, use a wheelchair etc
The other film I've recently watched is actually a series of two. "A Quiet Place" and "A Quiet Place Part II". Aliens can only identify people through sound. The hero is hearing-impaired and holds the key to survival. Two great films. #thinkINC #disability #SEND
The #Paralympics are here! for the next few weeks the Inclusion Hour will be all about them. I'm really enjoying the @C4Paralympics coverage. Are you? #thinkINC #disability
