Good morning! It’s hang day at Candid Arts Trust, and to celebrate we have our final graduate - Jess Ciccolone!
Jess says “I feel inspired by my everyday life and what surrounds me; in fact, I enjoy drawing the city and being able to transmit its chaotic and busy feel.”
Good morning we start of the day with Christine Harrison @christine.ellen.harrison
She says: “I would love to keep illustrating stories that use humour to take on some of the challenges in life, as well as transporting my readers to exciting new worlds.”
This evening we’re introducing Jess Mahy and her lovely, soft illustrations.
Jess says: “I enjoy mark making and using textures within my illustrations to capture a playful energy. I take inspiration from everyday moments, adventures and childhood memories”
This morning we have Frances Ives @francesives - we love her rich, painterly imagery.
She says “My sketchbooks are where I start every project - they’re a place for me to play and explore the textures, colours and marks I try to put into every piece.”

This evening we introduce you Charlotte Bownass @charlottebownass
She says: “Each print feels like puzzle! Working out how all the different parts fit together and make a successful picture can give me a headache, but nothing is as thrilling and satisfying as when it works”
Next up is Shihchia Chan.
She says “The observation and reflection from my daily life are the inspiration for drawing. I enjoy creating stories about self-care and relationships, whether in picture books or comics.”
Tonight we have Pannie and her joyful bold marks. Pannie says “I am a Thailand-based illustrator. I have been drawing since I was a little girl. I used to draw my grandmother working in the fields and all the different animals that lived on our island.”
Introducing Julia Flemming
'When my youngest daughter was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, I wanted to use my creative skills to raise awareness of disability. I haven't yet tackled the issue of disability in my picture books but I hope to soon.'
Introducing Vencho Wang!
Hi, my name is Vencho, I like to use everything from life to draw, like bread, chopstick, or the rock I found on the street, all these things from daily life create a special texture that is full of stories.
Today's first illustrator is Jamie Harris!
Jamie's created a variety of imaginative images, many of which focus on un-noticed possibilities. He favours a graphic, minimal approach, and a strong, expressive line.
