A first-time viewing. I’ll watch any film about doppelgängers, but here Joseph Losey wields the Gothic trope like a surgical knife to dissect the historical and political realities of WWII. Maybe the most Kafkaesque film that isn’t based on Kafka. Now on @criterionchannl.
Finally got to MIDNIGHT STAR, Chrysta Bell’s new album: a dreamy, synthy, sci/fi-adrenaline rush after making it through the first week of classes in freezing temperatures.
As a kid, my favorite Universal monster movie was DRACULA. Later, I thought it was cool to be a WOLF MAN or BLACK LAGOON guy (less traditional faves). It’s clear to me now that BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN was the correct choice all along. This is the natural progression of life, yes?
New Angel Olsen and Chromatics albums to take into weekend, which is to say I will be in a music bubble until Monday.
Borzage’s 1948 noir MOONRISE is coming in May from @Criterion. This is a big deal.
Can't wait to see the 4K restoration on Blu-ray. The beautiful @f_francavilla cover made the news even better! 2/2
