On this day in 1913 The Armory Show opened in NYC. It introduced astonished Americans to European Modernism. Most of the paintings were by Americans, but it was the Europeans — Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne, Picasso, Matisse, Duchamp — that caused a sensation.
