here's the difference between myself knowing *some color theory and ----> not. maybe not the most perfect example I can find, but just a quick one

But I DO often use the method of shading the entire drawing with only a few colors or greyscale first and then change it later. Clipping colors to my layers makes that process easier/more free to me and can focus on the lighting and shapes more
