Moths are often considered to be the less glamorous cousins of butterflies......Hmmmm-think again. Moths are colourful, spectacular flyers, tenacious food foragers and even have Hollywood accolades (theDeath’s Head featured in the publicity for the film The Silence of the Lambs)

- 1 of my art/science inspirations & heroes. The groundbreaking microscopy studies in his book, “Micrographia” 1665 brought a brave new world 2 the masses. He sketched bee stings, ants, flies & most famously, a flea. My homage to Hooke’s flea. https://t.co/ofeFqflx2E

Insect eyes are beautiful. They are made up of many individual light receptors that give a mesh-like or bubbled surface texture. The shape of these light receptors can also refract the light, giving gorgeous effects..pictured-bee eye, longhorn beetle eye, butterfly & mosquito eye

Dragonflies have been burdened with negativity in history. Mothers used 2 say 2 their children, if u don’t go 2 sleep the “Devil’s darning needle” will sew up yr lips in the night. Even the term “dragonfly” is negative. Some folks still thnk they can sting! All Odonata r awesome!

I’m often asked what’s the difference between butterflies moths?Appearance-wise, butterflies usually have long club-ended antennae, whereas moths‘ r often serrated/feather-like. Moths use tiny loops & fringes 2 hold their wings 2gether, b’flies don’t have these.
