On the Feast of the Translation of St Thomas of Canterbury we commemorate the service in 1220 when his relics were moved from the Eastern Crypt to a much grander shrine in the Trinity Chapel.

Today we celebrate the 801st anniversary of the Translation of St Thomas of Canterbury.
#OTD in 1220 Becket’s relics were translated, or moved, from his tomb in the Cathedral Crypt to an elaborate shrine in the Trinity Chapel.
While ‘the glaziers were depicting a shrine [it is not] THE shrine’. The importance of the panel remains in ‘the power, effectiveness and energy of Becket’.
