❤️Have a heart! (Or three...)
Coleoids (i.e. soft bodied cephalopods) have 3 hearts. Two hearts known as branchial hearts pump blood for their gills, and the third heart, the systemic heart, which pumps blood to the rest of their body!
Happy Valentines Day!🦑💕🐙
There is some diversity in cephalopod mating, and some are more romantic than others. Some, like Octopoteuthis deletron, engage in “drive-by mating,” where as pairs of nautiluses may copulate for up to 30 hours at a time.
Vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) Neither vampire nor squid, they are the only surviving member of Vampyromorphida. Despite the name, Vampire squids are the only cephalopod that doesn't eat live prey but instead they eat detritus.😋Yum!
@depthsofwiki Clearly you've never seen the flag for the River Gee county in Liberia
Octopus squid (Octopoteuthis deletron) Male octopus squids are known to mate with males and females equally. Unusual for squids, male octopus squids don't have hectocotylus, but an appendage that is closer to a penis.
