Sonic’06 was originally planned to be a reboot of Modern Sonic that Yuji Naka wanted to implement. Sonic Team at the time wanted to take Sonic in a different direction from Heroes & Shadow the Hedgehog to keep Sonic relevant.

The reboot was sloppy b/c:
Sonic Team’s games aren’t the Freedom Fighters’ stories.
There were continuity inconsistencies.
In-game events from Unleashed were ignored.
Amy was eventually written out of the story she’s canon to.

If IDW were to do this in a future issue to show Sonic accepting his feelings for Amy before Dr. Eggman comes to try to ruin their moment w/Sonic retaliating & having none of Eggman’s shenanigans...

IDW didn’t show any hugging between Amy & Knuckles like Archie Comics and their dynamics in IDW isn’t like Archie’s. Ian Flynn can’t reference anything from Archie because Sonic Team won’t allow it.

It’s comical how some were quick to speculate that Tangle was going to be a rival to Amy Rose as a love interest to Sonic in IDW before & after she debuted all b/c they thought her silhouette was Sally Acorn designed.
