Excited to go on a Watson Fothergill tour of Nottingham this morning. An extraordinary architect who changed the 19th century cityscape, and I love spotting the political faces he carved into his buildings like Gladstone #LookUp #Victorian
Finding likenesses of #SamuelRogers really is the gift that keeps on giving... This is from @NPGLondon's Key to Partridge's 'The Fine Arts Commissioners, 1846'. He looks better (blurrier!) in the finished work: https://t.co/fOoUPPcoLN #ArtVsLife #Romanticism #Poet
In honour of JMW Turner, who was (probably) born #OnThisDay 1775, I must share the fantastic digitalised images held at @Tate commissioned by Samuel Rogers for the poem 'Italy'. Ruskin claimed the material beauty of Rogers's 'Italy' inspired his career https://t.co/jnNRm5bp3z
Artist Joshua Reynolds died #OnThisDay 1792 (b.1723). Reynolds knew Samuel Rogers well, and Rogers recalls Reynolds as having stated that the human face was his landscape. More anecdotes form Rogers about Reynolds are below- enjoy!
