Having entered holy orders Bowles became vicar of Bremhill, Wiltshire in 1805 where he lived until shortly before his death.His poetry was well received and S T Coleridge paid tribute to him.
3/3 Montagu’s biological interests included marine zoology and British mammals, but birds were his passion. Known as the ‘father of British ornithology’ his name is still associated with a variety of British species, including Montagu’s blenny, harrier, ray, sucker, and sea snail
