On Maundy Thursday a famous and important fresco from The Scrovegni Chapel in Padua by Giotto from 1305. It depicts the betrayal of Jesus by his disciple Judas. Giotto’s work moved away from 2-dimensional figures to those with more human qualities.

@arthistorynews That’s a shame. Hard to understand why they would refuse. I did some research on the Gunn sisters when I was working at Inveraray Castle so would have been fascinated to find out more. I love the full length portrait of Elizabeth in @NatGalleriesSco

4. The first painting is The Preaching of John the Baptist by Pieter Bruegel the Elder painted in 1566 and the second painting is a copy by his son, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, of the same image but minus the bearded man in black facing the viewer painted after 1616.

@BirleyJustin @NatGalleriesSco I’d go for ground floor galleries 1-4 and take in some Gainsborough, Titian, Velazquez and Veronese. Plus there’s the annual January Turner Watercolours Exhibition. Enjoy.

Hadn’t realised the connection between these two rediscovered paintings. Olivia Boteler Porter by Van Dyck @TheBowesMuseum was the niece of George Villiers by Rubens now in @KelvingroveArt - interesting eh? 🤔
