Happy birthday to @MikeZeck, artist of many great GI Joe covers!
GI Joe #2. In the 80's, it was considered "scarce" due to a low print run and impossible to find as "investors" hoarded it. Prices went up to $50 in some places. As the comic book investment craze wore off and the Internet disproved its scarcity, its value came down.
High drama by Larry Hama, as a major plot point is revealed in GI Joe #21.
The USS Flagg from 1985 was an unmatched beast of a toy. It had a shipping weight of 45 lbs and cost about $125. And if you had it, it made you the undisputed cool kid of the neighborhood.
Mercenary. Code name: MAJOR BLUDD. First appeared on toy store shelves in 1983.
GI Joe vs Cobra in Operation Star Fight from Marvel Books from 1987. Artwork by Earl Norem.
