They have the ability to create space, and stuff in space. Whatever comes to existence is book-sized, usually. The book is there for them to have better means of control of their ability.

Spilled a little ink on my drawing while trying to draw NiLU and smudged it while trying to wipe it. : (
I think I can salvage it though.
