Value is a big part of what we're talking about when we're looking at contrast. Placing two very different values next to one another creates high contrast. Putting two similar values together creates low contrast.(2/10)
I finally finished this painting of a Torvosaurus fending off some Allosaurus!
Many thanks to @lewislarosa for helping me with the pose on the Torvo
I made this illustration for this awesome new study on mammalian evolution!
The study shows that mammaliaforms that radiated early (and not dinosaurs) held back the ancestors of today's mammals from becoming more specialized during the Mesozoic!

I suppose this is also as good a painting as any to celebrate the end of twitter crop!
This is another painting where I tried to emulate wildlife photography with the dynamic poses and the use of blurs. Let me know if this sort of stuff is something you would like to see more of!
The last step was to clean up the painting, add dust effects, and to adjust the colors to make the scene stand out more! I also added some motion blur
The next step was to add a color layer underneath the linework. The highlights on this color layer were referenced from the highlights on the picture of the sculpture.
New painting!
