Interesting to stand at the spot where history occurred only about 80 years apart. In 1781, Benedict Arnold landed to burn the contents of Berkeley Plantation(painting by Sidney King ca 1960s).In 1864, the Union ironclad, the Onondaga was part of the campaign to capture Richmond.
Just completed! The 9th painting in a series of 12 for @BostonHistory (Spyglass Books, LLC / Walking Boston) on Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride. This one depicts Revere as he prepares to ride from Charlestown on a horse he borrowed from John Larkin.
The right 1/3 of the painting. The man with the lantern is Richard Devens. He’s warning Revere of armed British officers seen that night in Lexington. To his left is Col. Wm Conant. They saw the lanterns in the steeple of the Old N. Church & knew Revere coming across the river.
