The digital sketches were used as my reference point to see how closely I could match & add to them in acrylic. I also used these to decide what the color schemes would be for the landscapes I would be painting the characters in later.
Now we finally arrive at that whole "figuring out the acrylics" part of the equation. I'd never really gotten to paint in "my style" before this, because I was learning technique and experimenting with new stuff. Getting to this point was something I remember being excited for!
With these drawings I was practicing with putting characters in scenes instead of using a void, which was an important part of the project moving forward, though the outfits here were not. I also just wanted to give each of them at least one active hobby, for character building!
If you've been following me for a long time you should recognize these guys, but I'll give you a quick intro so you know who's who if I start dropping names:
Wendy Hatter (she/her)
Penny Vasquez (she/her)
Savannah Walter (she/her)
Tabitha Brooks (she/her + he/him)
I'm def not getting through all the images in one night bc I have /a lot/ of them and I feel it's only fair to give them alt text.
To start off with though, this illustration :) It's the Stardust Scouts all dressed up to explore alien planets, the main theme of the project!
Your downer friends think you're too happy, too happy
'Cause you still celebrate sometimes
