Postal Fact: ZIP Codes were introduced into the American Postal System on July 1st, 1963. It stands for "Zone Improvement Plan" & was apart of the Nationwide Improved Mail Service Plan. Various promotion methods were adopted, including introducing Mr. Zip mascot.
