Postal Fact: ZIP Codes were introduced into the American Postal System on July 1st, 1963. It stands for "Zone Improvement Plan" & was apart of the Nationwide Improved Mail Service Plan. Various promotion methods were adopted, including introducing Mr. Zip mascot.

Postal Fact: Heinrich von Stephan played a major role in the federalization of the German Postal Service, long run by the private Thurn and Taxis family. He eventually became the General Post Director, playing a vital role in establishing the Universal Postal Union.
