A portion of the fabulous murals Preclassic Maya Murals of San Bartolo (as restored by artist Heather Hurst). This portion shows a scene of ritual offerings to a divine figure (sometimes called the Maize God) before a life giving cave.
Murals from the ancient Maya city of Calakmul showing various market place scenes.
The excavation of "Offering 4" from the Olmec site of La Venta! These greenstone figurines were arranged to stand in a group around a set of upright greenstone celts, seemingly replicating stone stelae like those found at the site.
To this day, this scene makes my jaw drop!
A ‘painter’s palette’ made by cutting a conch shell in half. Recovered from Burial 7 at the Ancient Maya city of Cahal Pech, Belize. Photo by Catharina Santasilia.
