My two weeks of quest file re-org are finally paying off. I can now bundle dialogue for individual NPCs, and make each have their own reaction to the hero's progress.
The doubter shown below is not the quest giver; he's a random townsperson.

I've replaced RPG Maker MZ's flash-and-zoom battle transition with something more old-school. Here's a screenshot, captured as the darkness is partway through closing in.

All monsters in the Blob family used to be simple palette swaps. Green Blob is the weakest; I've made it look less threatening. Burning Blob, on the other hand, has gotten more threatening.
