Dance, oh sun, your slivers of gold upon this glassy sea
That touch the heart, revive, and enlighten me
Cast your colors at eventide
Reds and violets across the ocean wide
not a moment on waves true and tried
To bring me safely to shore
And return me to her side

The final lines blur as ink stains the page
The poem is
Like a lion confined to a cage
To live, it must run wild and free
To fly, it must become what no lion can be
Tell us, dear butterfly of the air
Give us your secret and share
Words
Like those of a prayer

Soft fragrance from bluebells and fern
Sunlight through trees signals spring’s return
Rushing waters from a river upstream
Usher in scents of wisteria and hints of ice cream
no more, she melts in my embrace
For the winter of this world
Has vanished without a trace

Just look at the way that they love
Up there in the tree
Stirring and shifting in
Singing and peaceful as can be
They’re building a home
All for their family
Oh how I wish
As I watch them with glee
That we could build something too
For just you and me

What for do dreams like feathers float
Upon a breeze unseen but felt
My love who sleeps and dreams in secret?
Like snowflakes hushed in winter’s wind
Are her thoughts to her and her alone
But joy untold is my heart so bold
If one tiny flake
Falls to the snow
For me

So she will here and wait
Between the doors of life and fate
On the bus through sorrow’s ivy gate
Little knowing what joys await
Those with trust and hope anticipate
The year ahead with gifts so great
Beyond what sorrows undulate
The chance to live
And recreate

He loved her
His kiss would prove it
Though his words were scorned
His heart poured out
Upon her thirsty lips
Yet after all that
She was
About her own heart
So with emotions
Torn asunder
He let her go
To find it
And she searches

What words do spring forth from my lips
Gracious, loving, deliberate diamonds of bliss
Would be the dullest of rocks and stones
Without the filling these bones
Inflaming the deepest glow from within
Rising from the heart
This love letter must begin

7 43

Love leans in to care
Love steps down from that
And offers an embrace
Without condition
Love says I understand
Love says you matter more
Life hurts
Love heals

Before these roses that bear the thorn
Bring your heartless wounded soul
Watch how my love
Like water to my garden
Soaks it
Touches it
Transforms it
From bitter to sweet
From fallen to risen
From wilted to flourishing
In every way, a love that will say
Restored
